New York’s Aljamain Sterling (10-0) steps into the octagon once again to meet Mitch Gagnon (11-2) at UFC Fight Night 54 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in October.
Sterling is coming off an very impressive showing after finishing Hugo Viana via third round TKO back in July. Sterling had a successful UFC debut after he defeated Cody Gibson via unanimous decision at UFC 170. The former Cage Fury Fighting Championships bantamweight champion defended his bantamweight strap 3 times. In his last CFFC bout, he submitted Joel Roberts in the opening round at CFFC 30. The fight marked the return of Sterling after over a year layoff due to injury.
Sterling’s win over Viana also marked his third fight while apart of Team Serra-Longo in Long Island, N.Y.
Mitch Gagnon is currently riding a three fight win streak inside the octagon. Most recently, Gagnon earned a decision over Tim Gorman at the TUF Nations finale. Gagnon has also earned a guillotine choke over Dustin Kimura and a rear-naked choke over Walel Watson. Gagnon’s last defeat was in his UFC debut where he was submitted by Bryan Carraway. He has collected 10 submission victories out of his 11 career wins.
