Aljamain Sterling signs with UFC, meets Lucas Martins

Undefeated bantamweight, Aljamain “Funk Master” Sterling (8-)) has been signed by  the UFC and will take on Lucas Martins (14-1) at UFC 17o at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sterling defended his Cage Fury Fighting Championship bantamweight strap against Joel Roberts at CFFC 30, submitting Roberts in the opening round. The fight marked the return of Sterling after over a year layoff due to injury.

New York’s own, Sterling has yet to be defeated, finishing 5 of his 8 professional bouts. Sterling is also the owner of back-to-back submission victories over Sedico Honorio and Casey Johnson.

Sterling has also found a new home. Sterling has now moved to Team Serra-Longo in Long Island, N.Y. The win over Roberts marked Sterling’s first victory with the new team. 

After being signed by the UFC, Sterling joins a couple of teamates on the UCF roster like Al Iaquinta and UFC middleweight champion, Chris Weidman

Ever since suffering his first professional lost to Edson Barboza in his UFC debut, Martins has won two strait, defeating Jeremy Stephens and  Ramiro Hernandez. The Former lightweight dropped down to bantamweight and looked fantastic as he submitted Hernandez in the opening round.
