Former Strikeforce lightweight contender, Pat Healy (31-16) will clash with former WEC lightweight champion, Jamie Varner (21-8-1) at the stacked UFC on FOX 9 event. The event takes place at the Sleep train Arena on September 14th in Sacramento, California. The lightweight bout will take place on the preliminary card.
Healy will look to earn his first official UFC victory against Varner. Healy earned a submission win over Jim Miler at UFC 159, but the contest was overturned to a no contest when Healy tested positive for marijuana. In his most recent outing at UFC 165, he was dominated by Khabib Nurmagomedov, losing by unanimous decision.
After winning two fights in a row, Varner earned his ticket back into the UFC. Varner shocked the world when he knocked out the Brazilian rising star, Edson Barboza back in May of 2012. Since then, Varner has gone off and on, unable to put two wins together. In his last bout, Varner was defeated by Gleison Tibau via split decision at UFC 164.
