At one point Joseph Benavidez (18-3) was considered the number one flyweight in the world. Then Benavidez met current UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort. Benavidez lost by a unanimous decision and was also handed his first flyweight lost. Ever since then, Benavidez has won back-to-back fights with a decision over Ian McCall and a knockout victory over Darren Uyenoyama. Benavidez is very close to the rematch with Demetrious Johnson, but before he can get revenge, he must fight Jussier Formiga (15-2). Formiga had a rough UFC debut as he lost to John Dodson at UFC on FX 5: Browne vs. Silva by knockout, a fight he was winning. In his most recent outing, Formiga dominated for three rounds as he defeated Chris Cariaso by unanimous decision at UFC on FX 8: Belfort vs. Rockhold, marking his UFC record at (1-1). This bout will be scheduled in Formiga’s backyard of Brasil on September 4th at UFC on FOX Sports 1 3.
