Brian Melancon out of UFC Fight Night 33 bout with Robert Whittaker

Brian Melancon (7-3) has suffered an injury, therefore will no longer face “The Ultimate Fighter: Smashes” winner, Robert Whittaker (11-3). The welterweight bout was scheduled to be on the UFC Fight Night 33 prelims. Whittaker will no longer fight in front of his home country, but will be pushed to another card and matched up with  a different opponent.

Melancon had a very successful UFC debut when he knocked out Seth Baczynski back in July. Melancon then took a fight on late notice to take on the TUF 17 winner, Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 27. Melancon suffered a lost via submission. The lost to Gastelum snapped a two fight win streak for Melancon.

As for Whittaker, he earned the TUF: Smashes title. After that, Whittaker took on the TUF 16 winner, Colton Smith. Whittaker dominated most of the fight and eventually finished Smith. In his next fight, Whittaker took on another TUF champion, Court McGee. Whittaker did not have the same success, he ended up losing via decision, marking his third career defeat.
